Happy New Year with our best wishes for success in 2012

Trust every one is fully recovered from the festivities and excitement of Christmas and New Year. Did you manage the annual trip to the boat show? Linda and myself fitted in our pilgrimage which was interesting as we made some valuable contacts for the club cruise in 2012. However the lack of sailboats on display was perhaps telling.

I am pleased to say the 2012 programme is ready for distribution and so those who have paid their subscription will receive their new membership cards & programme in the post next week. In the meantime you can visit www.bqyc.org.uk where you will find a copy to help you begin to plan for the season ahead. Whilst you are there check out the Gallery for some pictures of the Maldon RNLI Row.

The first thing you will notice is a change in the programme design as we attempt to recognise that this year is a bit special as BQYC 60TH anniversary. So its not only royalty that have a jubilee to celebrate! As the programme sets out, its quite a busy year in 2012. As a spin off this Jubilee style programme under normal circumstances is actually cheaper to produce, which must be a good thing. So let me know what you think.

The next thing is that our first event of the new season is on Saturday the 4th February. ‘CRUISING SAFELY’. So make a note to come along for 1930 for a club night when you can catch up with fellow members and get your safety equipment checked. The ideas is to have a session on :-

· Life Jacket maintenance and testing - Bring your lifejackets and we will check the jackets and gas cylinders.

· Gas installations and safety - Presentation by an expert, with advice and tips on maintenance of your installation.

· Fire extinguishers safety & testing - Bring your fire extinguishers for examination plus display of types and use.

· Leaving the boat - Demonstration of Life rafts, Flares etc.

So take this opportunity to be up to date and support the club by getting us of to a flying and safe start. Tel 01702 548597 alternatively simply reply to this email to book in. No charge for the event although it will help to know numbers for rolls & burgers/snacks at break. No doubt our catering volunteers will appreciate your support.

Just to get things underway smartly Peter Giles has organised a winter walk on the Sunday morning. So 1030 at the Star Steeple. Enjoy a short walk by the River plus a return to the pub for lunch.

If you have yet to send in your membership renewal I know June Price as Membership Sec. would very much appreciate your help with an early response as its quite a job processing all the detail.

Best regards with fair winds from all directions in 2012 .
